Renew cards throughout the District without travelling to the Civic Offices

Out to help you more

Last year staff from South Derbyshire District Council travelled to venues throughout the District to help people who wanted to register for the new government scheme which is going to replace the Derbyshire Countywide Goldcard Scheme in April 2008.

The new Goldcard is a joint scheme between Derbyshire County Council, Derby City Council and all the District Councils in Derbyshire, operated on behalf of the government. It will enable cardholders aged over 60 to travel free at certain times on local buses throughout England.

The chance to renew cards throughout the District without travelling to the Civic Offices proved extremely popular so the scheme is being offered in a number of locations again.

Says Chris Swain, South Derbyshire’s Head of Revenue, “We hoped that we might attract some people to these more rural centres but we were surprised that so many came along to register. “As it has been such a success that we are extending the scheme.  We will now be going to Goseley, Willington, Etwall, Repton as well as holding thirteen sessions at the Town Hall on the Delph in Swadlincote.

“The sessions at the Town Hall in Swadlincote will be held from 9.30 am until 3.30 pm on Wednesday 9 January and Thursday 10 January, and then every Thursday until the end of March.  The session at Goseley Community Centre will be on Tuesday 15 January from 10.30 am until 2.30 pm, at Willington Village Hall on Friday 18 January staff will be available from 11.00 am until 3.30 pm, the session at Frank Wickham Hall in Etwall will run from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm on Wednesday 23 January and on Friday 25 January there will be a session at Repton Village Hall from 10.30 am until 2.30 pm.  At the sessions we will take the photographs needed for the new cards so people don’t need to worry about going to a photobooth.  People who have a Goldcard already only need to bring themselves to the sessions.  Anyone who is over 60 and hasn’t already had a Goldcard needs to bring proof of their age.”

Full details of all the sessions can be found on our website: www.south-derbys.gov.uk/goldcard.
